Life’s Hurdles Didn’t Stop Lolo Jones

While I hate to admit it, life as a single mom is scary. I’m sure every mom who has ever had to provide for her family, after years of being at home, can relate to the fear that comes with having to become the bread winner. That’s why when I see stories like Lolo Jones’, I’m inspired and motivated to push on.

In case you don’t know, Lolo Jones is a track and field athlete who will be participating in this year’s Summer Olympics in London. Her story inspires me because she was raised by a single mom. Lolo shares that her mom had to work two jobs to provide for her family of six, she moved schools eight times in eight years, and even slept in the basement of her church for a while.

Lolo attributes her success to the support of her mom and community, as well as hard work and determination. “Growing up we didn’t have a lot of money so my mom really had to stretch her budget,” Jones said. “My family really benefited from the great values we received on P&G products from Family Dollar.

While living that lifestyle was far from easy Lolo maintained a strong passion for running. She attempted to qualify for the 2004 Olympics and failed, which fueled and even stronger determination in 2008. While she did qualify, she tripped over a hurdle landing her in seventh place. This year Lolo is back and ready to conquer those hurdles in gold medal fashion.

P&G is partnering with  Lolo Jones, who recently announced that Procter & Gamble is donating $25,000 on behalf of Family Dollar to the P&G Team USA Youth Sports Fund! This is exciting news, because the USA Youth Sports Fund helps give kids broader access to youth sports.  In promotion of their partnership you have a chance to win a 42 inch TV, plus a $100 Visa pre-paid card. You can enter here, (prizes will be awarded daily throughout the month of June).

I can’t wait to cheer on Lolo as she runs for the gold. As a single mom myself, I know the satisfaction her mom feels makes every sacrifice she mad, worth it! Stories like this inspire me to push harder every day, and teach my children to do the same.

I received a promotional package from P&G for myself and a friend for sharing this information. All opinions are my own.
