:20 Second Fitness Week 1

I am taking the 20 Second Fitness Challenge!

Are you ready for this? I know I am!

I am so ready to lose this last 10 pounds, especially since I have a lot of really awesome stuff going on this summer. Between Branson, Nashville, LA, and Orlando; I am pretty sure I will be spending a lot of my summer in a swimsuit! I have to get ready, and as a busy mom, time is always my biggest excuse. That’s why when I was given the chance to try :20 Second Fitness I jumped on it. From what the instructional video says the workouts range from 4 minutes to 12 minutes. You do 20 seconds of high intensity training and then rest 10 seconds.

Anyone can do that right?

I hope so.

Starting Stats:

Weight 125 / Biceps 10.5 / Hips 36 / Stomach 33

Goal: Fit into these jeans. They have been hanging in my closet since I traded them in for maternity pants almost 2 years ago. If I can get back into a size 0-1 pair of jeans, I will be delighted.

Here are the results from my first week:

Day 1: I just finished the first 4 minute workout. WOW! I am dead. My shoulders and back are feeling the burn. I gave it all I had for 4 minutes and I feel like I worked out for an hour! NO. KIDDING. The most amazing thing is that I just kept telling myself I could last 20 seconds and it really didn’t seem that bad. If I had to do that for an hour, I would return the DVDs tomorrow.

Day 2: Woke up feeling the burn. The first day worked one of my biggest problem areas; my shoulders. I am super week, but I pushed through and did as many push-ups as I could do in the 20 second increments (which was surprisingly more than I would have though I could do). So now I am sore but couldn’t say no to another 4 minute workout.

Finished up my workout and because it wasn’t quite as tough for me as day 1 I did some serious ab work as well.

Day 3: I’m not going to lie, I feel great. I am sure it’s because 1) I am finally working out, and am happy to start a new routine, and 2) Working out even for just 4 minutes makes you feel better. I am pumped and ready to see where this new habit will take me.

Finished up tonight’s workout. Whew I am super tired and am actually heading to bed (and its only 9pm). Good night!

Day 4: I am not quite as sore today, but do notice that the stiffness sets in when I am sitting or driving for long periods of time. It’s kind of nice because it forces me to get up and stretch out a little.  I decided to do my workout this morning, because I wanted to give myself the opportunity to go it again tonight (if I still feel up to it).

At this point I am really starting to get excited, and I’m even considering buying this for my mom. She really wants to workout but is having a really hard time starting because she works ridiculous hours. She can find four minutes a day, though!! I can’t wait to see where I am at on Day 7 when I do my weekly weigh in!

Day 5: Feeling better today! Not as sore as the previous days but I won’t lie, I am beat! I have been going to be early every night. I’m not really sure why I am so exhausted but I hope to be feeling better next week.  Hopefully my body just needs some time to adjust to working out. I would completely understand if that is the case because I have been REALLY lazy over the past 19 months (since I had my 4th child and started blogging). Anyway, I will let you know how I’m feeling next week.

Day 6: The final day is here, and I have to tell you I couldn’t be happier. I have been looking forward to tomorrow’s rest day all week (so sad I know).  I just did the workout and it was not too bad. Although, a new exercise was introduced (Brupee) and wow, it was hard core. As much as I am ready to take a day off and rest, I honestly can’t wait to start next weeks workouts. Mainly because I am loving the changes I am seeing in my body, and because I am ready to get past the Warm Up Exercises. Oh, and I am still dead tired. Heading to bed now (7:30 pm)

Day 7: REST DAY!! - Thanks to my 7:30 bed time last night I am now awake at 2 am!! Not sure this will be super helpful to my week, but I do feel better, and today is a day off from working out so I think I may just relax and maybe take a walk with the fam or beg my husband to buy me a bike, so we can all ride together today.

This week was basically just a day by day walk journal of my feelings, next week I plan to share more about the actual program itself, and my initial loves and hates. So check in next week to see what I think of the program, and if it would make a good addition to your workout library.

Week 1 Stats:

Weight 123.8 / Biceps 11 / Hips 36 / Stomach 32.5

I lost 1.2 pounds and 1/2 inch off my stomach, and gained a 1/2 inch on my biceps. I love that I lost a little, and think it’s finny that I gained on my arms. Overall, these measurements don’t mean much to me because I feel better, and I fit into my pants better! For me that’s where the true measurements come in to play. I could probably lose 5 pounds in water weight and tissue mass and I would weigh less but not be any healthier so even if I try not to put too much emphasis on stats.

- Enjoy your week, and I hope you make it a point to workout 4 minutes a day this week!!

  1. Great run-down of your first week!

The bicep growth is certainly because you are already a fairly lean person so your muscles are building.

Keep in mind you may find your measurements shrinking, clothes fitting better but your weight might not go down as far as you expect – even if you can get into the jeans. Because of the muscle growth.
