Running To Lose Weight {Are You A Running Mom?}

Are you a running mommy?

I have always wanted to be a runner. Not because I enjoy running one bit, but because I think running looks awesome, as do the runners.

Runners bodies tend to be super fit and muscular, and not in a Hulk way, but in a healthy way. The only problem is that I hate running.

IT. HURTS.

My friends swear by jogging strollers, not just to stay in shape but to bring that baby along, but I’m on the fence.  It’s not that I don’t want to bring my girls along. It’s just that double jogging strollers aren’t cheap, and I’m not 100 percent sure I wouldn’t give up after 2 days! It’s super hot and muggy outside, and I’m just not sure I have what it takes to be a runner.

I was talking about this with a blogger, who loves running (many bloggers do) and she gave me a few tips.

She told me to:

- Start slow. Don’t worry about speed but just run as far as I can. Then try to go a little farther every day.

- Get a great pair of shoes

- Drink plenty of water

- Have fun, and include the entire family

- Set a goal. Try to participate in a “fun run” and train for it.

So I may just take her up on that. After all, I find it really hard to work out because I don’t want to have to drive to the gym, and I don’t like leaving my family behind. My kids love running and are actually members of the 100 mile club! For every mile they run they get a foot bead, and for every 100 miles I am going to give them a gift card to Target!

I would also like to hear from you who run, about weight loss. Would you say running alone is a good way to lose weight, or would I need to implement other forms of exercise as well? I want to know!

    I must admit that I am not a jogging mom but we do love to go for walks! A good stroller is always a wise investment and in the long run will help get you outdoors. I look forward to reading more about your journey.

  2. I agree a double jogger is an investment. I am walking/jogging and working my way up to running longer distances. I love getting outside in the fresh air. I have two toddlers to take along and didn't care for the double wide strollers. I went with the Phil & Ted which allows me to have my little one behind my son. LOVE IT!! We fit more places with it, and the back seat extension clips off. Pushing a double is hard work up hills for great added workout benefit.

    I am currently a Mamavation Mom so we do a combination of exercises to lose weight. I use the EA Sports Active 2 on my Wii, various DVDs for the home and then I take a walk/run every morning. Keeping a variety helps me stay with it. Best of luck to you!

  3. It is SOOOOOO important to have a good pair of shoes! I was doing the C25k challenge, but I just bought regular Walmart shoes – they REALLY hurt my shins – I mean like worst shin splints EVER. I have let them heal a few weeks and I plan to head to RunningWild to get a good pair and go at it again… I agree, I LOVE the look of a runners body!
