5 Ways To Soothe A Teething Toddler

Having a teething toddler in your home can be a great source of stress! When toddlers are teething they are in pain and don’t understand why. It can be very frustrating time for everyone.

Many times parents it can take a few days for parents to realize that their toddler is indeed teething! Here are some signs you can look for: Does your child seem unusually irritable? Are they running a high grade fever, excessively drooling, or have diarrhea? You may also notice a decrease in appetite and lack of sleep. (possibly for you and the baby lol :) ). If you are dealing with any of these issues your child may be teething, but if you are unsure, please consult a doctor.

Here are 5 ways you can soothe your teething toddler:

1) Wet a wash cloth and place it in the freezer for 10 minutes. Allow your toddler to chew/gum the cold wash cloth. Not only will this curb your child’s need to chew but the coolness from the cloth can numb and ease the pain.

2)Smart Mom Teething Bling Necklace This is a life saver for moms who are on the go! You can read my full review Teething Bling Review.

3)Hylands Teething Tablets Unlike other products on the market, these tablets are all natural! I prefer these over Tylenol and other medications or pain relievers (like Orajel)

4)Razbaby RaZberry Teether This BPA free pacifier/teether is great for toddlers who are still using a pacifier! I would not recommend this for parents who have already weaned their toddler from the pacifier. Want to break the pacifier habit? Read our hilarious journey in ending pacifier use!

5) Try to keep your toddlers face dry. Remember to pack extra wash cloths or burp pads for your little sweetie’s face. Sometimes when a toddler is teething they can get a rash from the excessive drooling. A sore face is only going to make for a crankier teether!

Don’t forget to cuddle your toddler and tell them just how special they are to you. Try to keep your frustration under control. This is a hard and trying time for parents but remember to remain compassionate towards your hurting toddler. It won’t last forever!

Great tips! I am so thankful that both of my kids are out of this stage. It was just so sad to see them hurt when they were teething.

  3. Jacqueline Griffin says:

Teething is uncomfortable for babies. My grampa used to say that the eye teeth are the hadest to cut so they get more sick when those teeth are coming in. I agree that cutting teeth makes babies sick. I like the remedies listed.

    Boy, do I remember teething!!

    Those are super suggestions.

They did not have bling necklaces when my boys were

young. I would have used. them.

I wish I knew about the RaZberry Teether when my little one was teething. She'd cut 3-4 teeth at a time. Terrible in that the pain was worse, but good in that it was all over with at once too! I was a HUGE fan of the Hyland's Teething tablets during that time! Probably should've bought stock!

  6. Sounds like good tips!

  7. Tammy says:

I used either the pacifier in the freezer or baby Orajel.

I have used the cloth in the freezer. Was my son's FAVORITE!

  9. Those are some great tips! My kids were not so bad with teething, but I am sure some of those tips would have came in handy!

I remember well how hard teething time was, mine were 5 years apart! I had never thought of using the freezer at the time, but did use a cold wash cloth or the traditional teether toys. and we still used baby aspirin back then. amazing they are still alive! I have never heard of the Hylands.. but I am sure my son & d.i.l. have. I like the newer teether toys that you freeze too. that pacifier looks very interesting, too. and one thing I know we tried at least once, maybe twice out of desperation ( this was the 70s) was rubbing a bit of rum or vodka with a bit of sugar on their gums.. I know it sounds horrible now! but it helped.. and they got some sleep & so did we. I wouldn't recommend it now, tho, LOL!

  11. When my children were teething, I swore by the Hylands tablets.

  12. Henrietta says:

Oh I remember those horrible teething days when my kids were babies, misery! The only thing that ever helped was a frozen teething ring. That chew chew chew (or gum gum gum lol) seemed to give the most relief. Great tips!

  13. Kathy says:

I am going to try the natural teething tablets. What a great product. Jonah is getting two more on the bottom and it has not been fun! Thanks for the tips!

  14. My daughter is cutting ALL FOUR CANINES right now. I swear by teething tablets! I will definitely be trying the frozen washcloth trick. Putting some in the freezer now. LOL. Thanks!

  15. Great tips, we swore by hylands with my daughter and we are starting to use them with my son now too.

  16. All excellent tips! We really got lucky with our kids, none really had an issues with teething. But we did buy the Razberry teethers just in case which made for a great chewy for them.

  17. Paula says:

Teething is hell. It's funny how doctors say that kids don't get fevers or diarrhea when teething but everyone else in the world does.

  18. What a great (and true) article! I use the Hyland's teething tablets and amazingly they do work – and my daughter always ran eagerly for her "medicine". Also she loves frozen corn and fruit – they seem to work well for distracting and are good snacks for her, too.
